Feb 11, 2020 These are called function keys and all have Fx written on them, where x x is replaced with a number, like F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7, F8, F9, F10, F11, F12. So what do the the F keys on a Mac do? Glancing at the F keys on a Mac keyboard, you’ll see an icon if you look above the function key number, and that icon shows what else the key can do. Dec 04, 2008 On Mac OS X (and Linux), vi is symlinked to vim (vi improved), a more modern free software version. Vim It is the default editor when changing a crontab. If you gave vi a whirl and don't see the beauty of it, give the nano editor a try. It also ships with Mac OS X.
Hi all,
As an emacs user majority of the time, I got used to pressing C-x C-s for saving files, and frequently makes this mistake in vim, and turns on the ^X mode. However, unlike in linux, where I can quit the ^X mode by pressing esc (or in fact any key), the vim on my mac hangs when I am working in X11. Vim behaves correctly in terminal.app though. Does anyone have an idea on what is causing this? And any solutions? Cheers! Lianheng
